Hosting An Open House For Halloween

In the current economy many parents are looking for ways to cut costs where ever they can and celebrating Halloween can get expensive with the costs of children’s costumes, treats and especially Halloween parties. With just a little ingenuity, creativity and a few tips anyone can plan a budget friendly Halloween costume party for children.

Start out with a game of guessing how many candy pieces are in a jar. To make it easy for the preschool age children, use a small jelly size jar and fill it with larger pieces of candy such as miniature Reese’s peanut butter cups. Have each child try to guess how many pieces are in the jar. Write each answer with the child’s name down. The child who guesses the closest without going over wins the jar and the candy.

If you want to make a scary sounds CD for haunted house use as well as a dance track for a Halloween party, then create two play lists. One will feature just the scary sounds and the other can be a full mix of music and sound.

Witches Hands are easy to make with fresh popped popcorn stuffed into a clear plastic food service glove then tied at the end with curly ribbon. Add spider rings to the fingers for a frightful look. These make a great table decoration when piled on a platter on your food table.

Hot Pumpkin – Grab one of those mini pumpkins from your local grocery store. It will make the perfect prop for playing “Hot Pumpkin”, and Halloween variation of “Hot Potato”. Play some spooky halloween music and when it stops, whoever has that pumpkin is out for that round. Play until there is just one left and you have your winner!

Coming in at ninth is the Addams Family. While this is a popular song that most know, it really is not my favorite. If you want to play it with an audience around, you can definitely get them to participate with the snaps and maybe even belt out the lyrics from this classic past-time show.

Unexpected Scares: Make sure that there are always those ‘unexpected’ scary events at your party – whether before, during or after to spook your guests. With these planned scares, your party will be the talk of the town!
