Have you ever been interested in where leather originated from and how it is processed? There are many things out there on leather history and the process of making leather. Leather goods served many purposes in ancient times and leather also serves many purposes in the day and time. There are also methods of processing leather, such as the method of tanning leather. Some things have changed in the processing of leather in today’s time then how it was processed in ancient times.
When you have drawn all your outlines, use a very sharp tailors sheers and cut all along your outlined pieces. Do it slowly so that you can keep track of where you are cutting. Once a piece is cut, place it together with your corresponding fabric piece. Now that all your pieces are cut, and your chair is clean and repaired, you are ready to begin.
You might find it difficult to remove stains from your leather items. You should make sure to only use products that are made to be used on leather making. Test the product on an area that is not visible first to make sure that you will not harm the leather. If you are treating one glove of a pair you will want to be sure to treat both gloves. This will help the gloves maintain a matching color. You can successfully treat a small spot with alcohol or cuticle remover used with a cotton swab. You will be removing a layer of the leather so you should make sure you test it out before you apply.
For gum, fill a plastic bag with ice cubes and rub over the stain. Once the gum has hardened, pull off. If any residue remains, use a hair dryer to warm the gum and wipe off with a clean cloth.
One other tip I can give you is on the Chrysler leather steering wheels and it’s on these only I have found this. Not really sure why they do this but they do. The dye actually balls up and makes the steering wheel look really rough. You can sand this if you want but I have found a better way of dealing with this without wearing your arm out trying to sand the dye down smooth. Take a terry cloth towel and some lacquer thinner and rub the dye off with the lacquer thinner soaked towel. This will take it right down to the Leather crafting workshop and make it nice and smooth. Sometimes you will have to sand a bit after wards to get the raw leather smooth but you will surprised at the time and energy this will save you. Once your done you can fill and seal the raw leather then dye to match.
